Gary Walker - Oceanside Museum
Gary’s painting, Falling From Grace, will be featured at the Oceanside Museum of Art’s Herb B. Turner Galleries in Del Mar, from Feb 7 thru May 11, 2014.
Two years ago Gary was involved in a very serious near fatal accident that put him in the hospital for two weeks on the trauma floor. His Neurosurgeon told him, “You’re lucky to be alive!” and further said if he’d been hit one inch over he would have either been killed instantly or completely paralyzed. Forced to lay in bed for the better part of three months, with severely limited mobility and with a full torso cast, Gary was forced to do something he’s not really used to…being still for extended periods. Thus began months of physical therapy and intensive therapy with a renowned trauma/art therapist, due to the overwhelming outfall of his near death experience.
Up to that point, Gary had been joyfully painting 100 paintings a year for seven years and it was as if each one was done with the excitement, magic, and wonder of an 8 year olds’ Christmas morning. After this accident and to this date in the Fall of 2017, Gary has not been inspired to paint. He did, however, compose, record and produce eight beautiful new songs (called Poems Without Words), the first six months of 2017 which you can listen to on his Music section. The only exceptions are a couple of large paintings, one of which is based on his experience in the hospital and which you can see him explain all that he went through in his video, Halfway To The Stars, along with a number of other new Art videos he made early 2017.
Gary has been juried into three consecutive one-man art shows at the Poway Center for The Performing Arts, Poway, CA, 2012, 2013, 2014, where he featured 35 to 45 of his large-scale paintings in each show.
